Re: unpopular opinions

I wish instead of handing out money, the government just straight up handed out food. Have a list of approved things it would pay for, the amount of cash available to the recipient, who marks what they want, a store fulfills the order and the government gets the bill.

And if the government wants to leave off cake and cookies and soda, more power to them.

Why would that be better?

It eliminates the whole "The government is trying to tell me what I can spend my money on!" argument, and instead makes it "this is what the government is giving me to help me out in this difficult time," while also forcing the government to really think about nutrition.

Flip side: you end up stigmatising those foods as 'poor food'.

Honestly, I think it's just better to educate people and not to force these standards on just one section of society.

You're worried about apples and lettuce and whole grain bread being stigmatized as "poor food"? LOL get a grip.

Worried? No. Willing to entertain the idea that people are just that stupid? Yes.

You think 45 is going to decide that apples and lettuce and whole grain bread is what poor people should be eating?

1. You think 45 (or 44 or any other president) would be the one making that decision and not just signing off on it?

2. Nice job trying to tank a conversation that's never been "this needs to be a thing RIGHT NOW!" and treating it like it is.

Ok, what about food allergies? Lactose intolerance? Diabetes?

Do we kill all those people to make it easier?

Or do we let them chose from six hundred specialty plans? Obviously the diabetic plan needs more meat and veggies and fewer carbs, but carbs are cheap. So do we make the diabetics pay more? If we don't, won't people cheat the system by saying they're diabetic? So lets force them to prove they have these health issues, know how expensive testing can be for food allergies and shit? Obviously people who are going "Well, I shit blood for three days when I eat this food, so I don't eat this food." are just lying hosebeasts without a REAL diagnosis.

Or we let people make their own damn decisions when it comes to food and if they make shitty ones you don't agree with, so be it.

You know, as someone on disability who doesn't make enough to eat after rent and medical bills and certainly not enough to have any enjoyment outside of food: fuck you. If you start policing what I can and can't eat because you're a health but, I will literally kill myself because I won't have any enjoyment left. The occasional cheap snack cake is currently it.

Your telling me this whole world wide web you're currently using doesn't provide any enjoyment? It's got to be that tax-payer bought Little Debbie?

I have to use my phone and I only get to use it for web things a couple of brief periods in the day. And you know, I don't see you complaining about paying for that person who fell asleep with their cigarette lit causing a fire and abusing tax-payer money.

Oh, because they're not poor so it doesn't count. Suck my dick, upper-middle-class white person who has no real worries.
