122 - Well, all those pics collected together are just orgasmic. My brain just imploded.

135 - I don't think you should be ashamed over liking Twilight. I got the fancy smancy literature cred when I name drop Frank Herbert, Umberto Eco, Guy Gavriel Kay, Doris Lessing and all those dudes, and I still like Twilight. People who have the severe hate for it and find it to be utter trash are sad folks. They should just say that don't like it and leave it at that. No need to get all high and mighty and make criticisms about the novels that I discount because they don't make any sense. Not that there aren't things to criticism. I'm just saying... Anywho, I like the interactions between Bella and Edward, but I have loooooove for Jacob. I haven't read any Bella/Jacob fic, but now I feel like I need to.

173 - I love him! I thought I was the only one!

I still think Twilight is trash. 100% trash. But there is nothing wrong with liking trash. Seriously, people.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is trash. It isn't great literature, but it isn't as horrible as some people make it out to be. It certainly captured my interest. I put it on the level of most of the paranormal romance fiction out there. None of it will stand the test of time, but sometimes it is worth a read. And novel that captures the imaginations of so many people deserves to be classified as more than just trash. Then again, perhaps your definition of trash and mine are quite different. Trash, to me, has no redeeming value. And I don't believe that is true of Twilight.

I watch B-Movies, lots. Twilight is a trashy B-Movie in novel form. XD And yes, most everyone I know calls these books trash.

I bet the movie is going to be as bad as Space Mutiny....I can't wait for the rifftrax. I think the books are hilariously bad--MST3K quality. Bella is a bland moronic Mary Sue. The vampires sparkle like disco balls. Edward is a 100 year old virgin, who acts like a stalker. The dialog reads like something from, oh, say, any 1950s B-Movie. The vampires all took the short bus; seriously, the vampires are all idiots. And Smeyer writes like a 15 year old, who buys puffy pink glittery things from the Mall.

Then again, I sat through Manos:The Hands of Fate without MST3K.
I know trash when I see it...I have seen the bottom. O_O It's not pretty down there.

But the books still make me LOL. They kill my braincells with how awful they are written. I love them for the macros and jokes they've spawned. So they do have value! Mock value! XD;;

Given your loose definition of trash, I still wouldn't call Twilight trash. The characters are all flawed, often to the point of causing frustration. The "sparkling vampires" bit doesn't bother me like it bothers others. I think it's just a different take on why vampires can't go out in the sun. I don't find Bella bland or moronic. I think she's a normal teenage girl. Not every girl out there can be an amazing, sarcastic, witty, strong heroine at all times. I can't say that I had a strong personality at 17. I don't think many people develop their personalities fully until they are in their early 20's. And, I don't come at the books from an angle of them being a "trooo wuv" story. I find that Twilight is a very interesting study of obsession, masochism, and how blind "love" can make a person.

Simply put, I find there is more there than initially meets the eye, though whether Meyer intended those things is another question. I just finished a Philip K. Dick novel, and I transitioned into the beginning of Eclipse quite easily. I didn't noticed a drastic drop in writing quality, and I've read hundreds of novels in my life. Of course, Meyer has a different writing style and her books are not adult novels, so there will be some differences. I wouldn't say Meyer is as good an author as someone like Ursula K. LeGuin or Doris Lessing or Susan Cooper or even Jacqueline Carey. However, she's not the shit author that all of these people seem to make her out to be. I think a great deal of the issue is just people wanting to seem like they've got discerning tastes. Hell, I used to read Laurell K. Hamilton, but I can't now. I don't like the direction of her novels. But that does not mean I announce that they are trash or not worthy of being read. So many people still enjoy them that there must be something there - it just isn't for me any longer.

Anyway, the amount of hate Twilight has generated is pretty astounding to me. I'm not active in the Twilight fandom, nor do I know many people who have read the novels, so I'm just coming at this from my personal perspective. I've been an avid reader all my life, and I am most certainly not ashamed, nor do I feel guilty, of any book in my personal library. I think I have wonderful taste in novels, but I would never go around and spill such hatred for a book I simply didn't like. It seems like such a waste of time. If you believe something is trashy or "bad", why waste your time reading it, even? There are so many books in the world - why not read one of them? And if you can't stop yourself from reading the Twilight novels, then apparently you don't think they're all that bad. I find it hard to believe anyone would read a novel simply to make fun of it. And if you do, then what a waste of time and what a way to be a jaded cynic.

Umm, I think B-Movies are fun. I think seeing how awful something can get is fun--robot super midgets plan on taking over the world with an evil death ray, with mounted guns that look like umbrellas, I'm so there. Mocking something is lots of fun. Yes, fun. I like some trashy stuff, cause of all the comedy they can cause. And a disco ball vampire that announces their lover is like heroin is 100% comedy to me. I have read bad Fan-Fiction for comedy...it's hilarious to see how bad it can get. Doesn't mean they are not trashy or bad. XD

Bella is a Mary Sue self insert. Smeyer wrote herself into the books...as Bella.

Funny bone...get one. O_O Wow. You're serious business.

No, I'm actually not all that serious, and I'm not crying over people not liking Twilight. I do think I've figured out the difference between you and I, though. If I called something trash, then I would be saying it isn't worth my time, and I would never read it. When you call something trash, you're just saying that it's badly done and you like to make fun of it. I don't mind making fun of things, and I certainly don't care if people make fun of Twilight. It's no skin off my back. It just isn't in my nature to spend the majority of my time making fun of the world or entertainment around me. I did that when I was in high school, and it was just a method of self-defense for me. I did it to keep everything real or anything with emotional impact at bay. I'm definitely not saying that is what you're doing, though. I don't know you at all. I'm just saying that I find my time better spent on things that stimulate my brain, not my funny bone. And there are many laughs to be found in books/movies/programs that have nothing to do with making fun of something. Then again, perhaps that's not your M.O.

Anyway, my initial point was - if you are the person who posted the secret - why are you ashamed of reading the Twilight books? If you're so vocal about your low opinion of them, why feel guilty or hide behind the anonymous tag? I don't understand guilty pleasures at all. I like things that aren't considered hip or cool, but I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

I'm not the original poster of the secret, I'm posting Anon cause my computer is a pain. And you can stimulate the brain with funny. Mocking schlocky books and movies and other things with witty banter--is awesome brain candy. Funny can be just as much a stimulate as anything. Life is too short to be so serious.

You can be vocal about them, and they can still be a guilty pleasure. It's like loving candy, even if you know it's bad for you and has no other value other than it tastes good. Nothing wrong with that.
