Re: LEAST FAVORITE TROPE

It bothers me how much hate this trope gets because it's not just a trope, it's how people really are. So it's more like fiction being realistic about a common source of human conflict.

I mean I think a lot of the time the trope is just used to stretch out the drama without regard to characterization. But yeah, you're right. It is true to life. I guess for me it's one of those things that's just really frustrating to watch if you're not actually involved with all the personal complications because, logically, it has a very simple solution.

No it isn't. It is clunky, and the conversations artificially structured so that nobody states the obvious or asks obvious questions. It is not realistic at all.

If and only if the scripting stinks.

I hate admitting this, but I know from personal experience that it's a world class way to drive people up a wall, and is also the idiot foundation of a good many troll threads.

Every time I hear people complain about this trope, I keep thinking, "Boy, they would hate 'Frasier', then", 'cause that show used that trope a LOT :p.

Course, in that show's case, they were often poking fun at how silly and ridiculous that kind of miscommunication could be, I think, so...

I don't mind the trope myself, but I can see where it would frustrate others. Not everyone can pull that trope off well, but then again, that complaint can apply to any trope, really.
