Agh, I went through the "dark and edgy" phase when I started out writing fics. All the fandoms I wrote fics for are still very active and there are lots of great fics out there, so it really surprises me when someone comments on a fic I abandoned ten years ago and tells me to keep going. I don't judge those people though. I imagine they must be the same age I was when I started writing them and that makes me smile because they have their whole fandom lives ahead of them. Does my old writing makes me cringe? Of course. But I do appreciate their enthusiasm and think it's sweet.
