Re: Do you have kids?

Nope. I used to tell people I didn't want to have kids but I'd adopt but I think I was mostly just saying that because I knew people expect women to always want kids.

But really?

I don't want kids. I don't want to have to upend my life for them. I like doing my own stuff my own way. I like not having to share my space with another human being if I don't won't to. I like being able to decide I want to pick up and go somewhere on a weekend and it's no big deal. I realize this makes me selfish probably but I don't care, I freely admit it.

I'm fine with being the 'cool aunt' for my cousin's kid though.

Also I have a dog and a horse, that's enough responsibility-for-other-living-creatures for me. :)

It's not selfish! It would be more selfish to have kids and then be resentful of it, because it wouldn't be fair to them. (I'm sure you know this but just wanted to chime in with some positive reinforcement, heh)

Yeah, I know and you're right. :)

It also occurred to me that I once observed to my mom that everybody in our family had had problems with their first kid of one sort or another. Like, my grandmother had had a miscarriage. My aunt had a baby die of SIDs. Another aunt had trouble conceiving. My aunt-in-law's first baby died not long before he was supposed to be born. My mom got severely ill and had to be born via c-section a couple months early...you get the idea.

Though my cousin seems to have escaped that curse. Either way, I don't like my chances.
