On the flip side: What if you have kids, and ten years from now you really regret it?

I had the same thought in my late 30s. I'd always presumed I'd get married and have kids, because hey, everybody does! But then I started to think that if I wanted to do that, I should probably get on it. After thinking about it a bit, the reality that I had never ever chosen to prioritize kids/marriage was the answer. If I'd really wanted them, I'd have taken some concrete actions to have them.

Never ever have kids just because people tell you that you MIGHT regret not having them. Most of the time, these are people who just can't conceive that someone else might live their life differently and be perfectly happy in it.
