Well...to each their own ;) Regardless, it's nice to know that you can at least appreciate strong female characters.

Yeah, of course! My parents actually recently (as in, a few years ago) left their church because my mother wasn't allowed to even teach to other women and she felt like it was a waste of her talents. I might think the bible is true, but...it doesn't mean I think God meant us to do nothing but cook and clean (not that those are BAD things, either). In fact I've had a thing for strong female characters since I was a kid.

They wouldn't allow her to teach?! Well, from the sound of things it's a good thing your parents left that church and hopefully found a new one. There's no use staying someplace where you feel inferior and/or opressed.

I completely agree with you on the cooking and cleaning thing. It's not a bad thing at all (I actually enjoy cooking a lot) but to be limited to that is just...aggrivating. Women shouldn't automatically be expected to know how to cook and clean; they are definitely useful skills, but whose to say that men can't do them either? I think that if there is a higher being out there, he/she/it would want people to support one another, regardless of gender.

Yeah, they told her that the only ones that could teach other women about the Bible would be her husband and the pastor. They had a women's group, too, but the teachings were all how to be a good wife/mother etc. Which is important, but...not the end-all be-all. So yeah, they left. My Mother's lead Bible studies at our new church. I think they're much happier.

I think that's probably about right. My parents split housework duties, really, since both of them work full time now--I think that's perfectly fine to do.
