It's not the same as you, but I had braces later than most people at my school. I have them in my senior picture. I felt weird about it at first when I was getting them on around the time I knew people who were getting them off, but I stopped thinking about it before too long.

Also, when I was a kid my mom's best friend got braces. She was in her thirties. She didn't seem bothered by it, but you probably don't want to trust my vague memories of my kid judgement.
