I wish there was a flip of them though. More movies where actually unattractive or chubby/fat women get the hot guy.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-14 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be great! I can't think of any examples of that off the top of my head, unfortunately... which probably shows you how rare that is.

Muriel's wedding is the only example I can think of.

Hot guy tho?

nayrt

Yeah, I wouldn't call Jack Black a hot guy either. But that's a question of taste, I guess. However, in this case I'd say both parties are equally matched in the looks department.

Spy is sorta, but the joke is she doesn't want him.

The British comedy series 'Miranda' is another example where the male love interest is more conventionally attractive than the protagonist. But I agree, it's extremely rare.

TV Tropes to the rescue.

Hot Guy, Ugly Wife.

Er... I was assuming that ayrt meant examples where such a pairing wasn't done as a joke, but rather as a genuine romance - the way it is for movies where the geek guy ends up with a hot girl.

Most of the nerds in the 80s movies were pretty good looking. Most of the nerds of both sexes, tbh.

Hairspray (the original, preferably!) is the only one I can think of.

Circle of Friends failed at this.

The main character was supposed to be fat and plain, but Minnie Driver was neither.

I didn't see The Duff, but that's the premise of that one, innit?

That was a fun movie. Dumb, but fun. I just really liked Topher Grace too, so that helped.

I liked this movie.

My favorite part was probably the brother-sister relationship between Grace & Faris's characters

As for the actual content of your secret, I get that. I actually saw The Social Network when it came out because someone described it as being like a John Hughes film, and, while I liked it, it's really not. I totally understand wanting more films of that ilk.
