I agree that people make it too much of an absolute thing. 100%, I think you have to look at it in context and on a case by case basis and all of that kind of thing. But that's exactly what you're not doing - you're going too far the other way and saying all of it's equal and none of it matters.

And then, the other two points are, one, I think it's particularly tricky when jerkishness shows up in someone's work, and I think that's reasonably common with comedians in particular.

And two, I want to point out that what OP was originally saying is somewhat orthogonal to what we're actually talking about now, because they seemed to be making a conscious generalization to guide them in finding the most enjoyable pieces of media that they can, which is a little different from the kind of moral argument we're making, and I want to make sure that distinction is clear.
