So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, the 2 episodes of filler was kind of BS. My sympathy with your frustration on that one, you have it.
I'm glad you're enjoying Go-Onger, though. It was super, super cute. I don't recall there being a marked drop in quality in the second half, but I also might have stopped paying attention by the second half, so. I'm honestly not sure. But I am glad you enjoyed both of them. Did I tell you to watch Gokaiger? That one generally tends to be pretty well received.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 03:15 am (UTC)(link)What have you seen? Now I'm curious.
Re: So v. late, sorry
Zyuranger
Go-Busters
Gokaiger
Gekiranger
Kyoryuger
Plus the first season of Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger, and a bunch of the crossover movies.
I'm pretty sure I've watched a couple others, but I can't remember them. I'd have watched Battle Fever J, if the video quality of the ones that were up weren't so crap.
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)The crossover movies from sentai to sentai or the Super Hero Taisen? Because the latter are batshit crazy. (Fun, though.)
Re: So v. late, sorry
I mean the vs crossovers. I intended to watch Super Hero Taisen, but wasn't able to find a translation of it (I should probably make another look). (I should probably watch a few Kamen Rider series before trying SHT, I suppose...)
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 04:09 am (UTC)(link)Yesssss, Abaranger. :D (Um. The first thirty episodes are not where most of the - the series does a Face Heel Turn around ep 29 or 30, so if it drives you nuts, skip ahead.)
MMPR - man, I could go on for way too long about good and bad points of that show. Net positive, though. I will definitely check out Zyuranger at some point.
Re: Super Hero Taisen. Uh. Well. The first - look, I'm super pissed off at Decade and all of its plot holes at the moment. The first Super Hero Taisen involves, mainly, the crew from Gokaiger, the cast from Kamen Rider Decade, and one of the supporting cast members from Kamen Rider OOO. Decade is full of damn plot holes. It's an incredibly frustrating series to watch for me, both because of the plot holes and also because it seems to me to depend on for much of its emotional impact and simultaneously actively dislike the nine Heisei Kamen Rider series. And Amazon. (I felt less like it hated Black and Black RX, inexplicably, but whatever.)
If you want to watch Kamen Rider, be prepared, also, for a - Kamen Rider does endings badly, okay. In general. I mean, I love it. I do.
If you want to watch Kamen Rider (not necessarily for SHT, because that wants you to watch Decade for Tsukasa backstory and ARGH), I would go with Agito, Ryuki, Blade, Den-O, W, OOO, Gaim, Drive, and Ex-Aid, in that order (it is chronological). Of the 19 series that have aired since 2000 (I include Amazons in that number), my particular favorites are Agito, Blade, Den-O, and OOO. (Those may not be your favorites. Ryuki was REALLY well received. So was Gaim. So is Ex-Aid, but they fuck up all the medical shit and it keeps making me shout at it.)
And now that I have thrown a wall of text at you, I have to be up early tomorrow. (But I'll check back here then if you want to chat more. <3 )
Re: So v. late, sorry
And I'll check out some of those KRs.
Though you've reminded me of something. Out of curiosity, where do you stand on whether all the Sentai series take place in the same universe vs different universes, including a crossover universe where Gokaiger and the crossover movies happen? (Personally, the fact that each of the Dinosaur series has a different explanation for the KT extinction is too strong evidence for the multiverse for me to buy the single universe (except Go-Busters) hypothesis.)
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)Canon contradicts itself when it comes to crossovers. A lot. (I mean, the Hurricanger vs. Abaranger crossover directly contradicted a lot of Hurricanger Ten Years After, for example.) The timing of the settings for various series contradicts the relative ages of the people involved in the crossover films.
Super Hero Taisen contradicted. Everything. I. Everything. (Although one could argue that the involvement of Decade and the associated interdimensional travel solves that problem and that the versions of the characters are then not necessarily - I just finished talking about how Decade and its plot holes make me want to scream.) Wait, I just argued for the multiverse theory.
Gokaiger in and of itself is a strong argument for multiverse based on timing alone. Have you ever tried to make timelines for these damn series???
The shorter answer is that I keep trying to reconcile a single-shared-universe and I can't do it. Too many contradictions. (I do tend to enjoy the crossovers, though, so very much.)
Re: So v. late, sorry
Oh, gods, no. Just the blatant contradictions are enough to dissuade me from trying to go deeper.
Add in now many series have 'alternate universes' baked into the premise (Abaranger, Go-Onger, Go-Busters, Zyuohger, just the ones I can remember either watching or reading about), and the idea that the contradictions should be ignored to wrap them into one universe becomes very strange to me.
And...yeah, the crossovers are fun...just have to not try to reconcile them with the main series.
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, if people want to ignore contradictions and view it as a single shared universe, fine, that's okay, I'm not going to tell someone else how to enjoy their media. I'm more than happy to listen to people talk about why they think said contradictions should be ignored; it's fun to talk to people with enthusiasm. It's when fans start insisting their viewpoint is the only one that I get twitchy. (On that same note, I will tell you how many plot holes are in Decade. I will not tell you not to like Decade. I will not tell you you should have the same opinions I do on its myriad goddamn plotholes that make it a massive pile of wasted potential why do you do this to me, Kamen Rider.)
But yeah, I think I'd agree that multiverse is the way to go. Particularly, like you say, when you consider all the series with other dimensions baked into the premise. (Were there other ones? I'd have to go look.) I'm 90% sure you could probably assume the summer movies are usually in the same universe as the series they belong to, unless explicitly stated otherwise (555, I'm looking at you), but every once in a while those don't mesh too well either.
Got a favorite crossover?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)Meta gags are fun, when they're done well. (Hurricanger's Shurikenger - a character consisting ENTIRELY of meta gags and character homages. "I am ninja of ninja," pfffffffffffft. Fun, though.)
Re: So v. late, sorry
It was supposed to be 'one last transformation' for each of them...but, obviously, assuming SHT isn't in yet another universe, it kind of turned out to not be.
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)That's a super cute meta gag, though, as far as those go. "Hey, you look familiar...." :D
Re: So v. late, sorry
(I do need to grab 199, at some point, too.)
Re: So v. late, sorry
(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)Speaking of bizarre crossovers, have you seen the Korean Kyoryuger sequel? Because it is a hell of a thing. (Though between that and a few other things, I think I've found my next new language, yay.)

And that rule is a hard learned lesson from any number of anime and manga I've followed where the translator just fell off the face of the earth.
