Holidays suck when you have a terminally ill loved one. Even though they're still with you, they can't do what they want to do, and it's not a Tiny TIm thing where they're all "oh but I am blessed for what I have." They're understandably sad and so are you. Everyone makes the best of it and it's fine, but that's just it - it's fine. Every single holiday is fine. And the first few holidays, whatever. Fine is still nice. But soon you realize they're all like that and it makes you a little sad.

Even on Father's Day, which you never really celebrated anyway.

Oh, fuck yeah. My dad died three days after father's day last year. Fucking awful.

Yeah, I get that. My mom was in the hospital for her birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New Years last year, and unconscious most of Christmas, and this year she was in the hospital on Mother's Day. And it's my birthday next month and I don't know whether I'd rather she died before then or lasted out July, which is horrible, but there's just no way I'll have a fun birthday this year either way, but if she's dead by then I can just stay home and cry buckets. If she's alive still, I'll be at her bedside all day, and it's not like she's enjoying life anymore. I dunno. Terminal illness sucks. (hugs)
