I fucking hate the "how to care for an introvert" or "being friends with an introvert" or anything resembling it. Gotta be one of the most infantalizing and eye-rolling thing I've seen on the net.

Also the idea that all extraverts are party-goers and shallow thinkers. I can't take people seriously when they believe shit like that.

Its the new "preps and goffs"

AYRT: That's actually a good analogy lmao. I thought I was done with high school cliche shit.

Its part of the reason I falsely claimed to be an introvert. I was autistic and nerdy and I felt like I was supposed to be an introvert, just a weird one. I liked events and parties and if I didn't have a reason to go out and do things for too long I get super stir crazy.

I falsely claimed to be an introvert too but I believed it. People have a hard time comprehending an extrovert with social anxiety. Which actually really sucks. I need a lot of human interaction but at the same time it's nervewracking.

Anon of this thread: Holy hell I feel this! I desperately want to engage in more social interactions, but all I end up doing is rethinking every damn sentence I say. It's exhausting and discouraging.

I thought I was an introvert for a long time as well. Now that I'm on meds, it turns out that's not the case.

Yes, I'm an introvert, and no, it doesn't mean I hate talking to people and never want to leave the house and would be happy staying indoors and watching TV 24/7, like so many of those introvert memes imply.

I guess that's kind of the flip side of the "extroverts are all shallow partiers" thing.

It's like the internet decided there are only two ways to spend one's free time" WILD PARTYING ALL NIGHT!!! or staying in your house with the TV/computer.

I'm not a partier, and I like being alone, but I'm not afraid of people talking to me and I don't like to stay indoors all day.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm an introvert, but I'm not an agoraphobe, which a lot of memes seem to imply is the same thing. I'd probably last longer than an extrovert if I was unable to leave my house for some other reason, like I was stuck in bed with a broken leg or something, without going nuts, but I'm not terrified of the outside world. I just need frequent breaks from it.

I'm an introvert and it bugs the crap out of me! So does this stuff:

I get that people are trying to make themselves feel better, but come on, that's just nonsense.

Re: confessions

Agreed. It always comes across as one of those "Guys give me attention, I'm so cute, look at meeee!" kind of things.

Plus, frankly, everyone is introverted and extroverted both depending on the situation. I definitely veer toward introversion and I need alone time, but seriously. I've come to hate "pop psychology", anything that has to do with introversion/extroversion or that fucking stupid Myers-Briggs test that needs to be tossed out with other fake pop psychology.

AYRT: +1 to mentioning the everyone is introverted and extraverted thing. You'd think with all these "how to take care of introverts" they would read up more on MBTI. It's startling how so few people seem to know that that particular psychology field points out everyone has BOTH sides, people will just defer on which they lean to.

I like some of the more self-deprecating ones, but most irritate the hell out of me.

Re: confessions

Introvert here. It is infantalizing and so damn annoying. I hate the majority of introvert posts that pop up on my dashboard because a lot of them could easily apply to people who struggle with social anxiety, depression, generalized anxiety, or agoraphobia and mental illnesses can affect extroverts too so...

Also as an introvert adult, I don't need people to "take care" of me. I can take care of myself for goodness sake.

I hate infantilization in any shape or form, it's one of my very worst buttons. I'm a fucking adult. Don't talk about me and people like me as though we're your goddamn pets.
