Same here. It doesn't help that I'm still drawn mostly to series with characters that are younger than me. It's nice when I find something with characters my age that I want to be in the fandom for, but it just doesn't happen that often (and in my only current fandom like that, the character I relate to the most still happens to be a kid, go figure). I love movies and books with adult characters who I relate to, but none of those are really the type of thing to have a fandom.

Even when I can identify with adult characters, they're always younger than me. I'm nearly 40, and the characters I like are usually late 20s or below.

I wonder if it's because my generation is making the stories now and want to tell their stories but appeal to the ages they wish they could have heard things at.

I find it hard, too, because a lot of the genre style of fiction tends to feature younger casts. Even when it's about adults, it tends to be younger 20s, and I tend to feel really awkward about being in the same fandom as people much younger than me.
