it's shitty that you're getting called a pedo, but honestly don't post any personal information about yourself on tumblr/twitter and you'll avoid most of the fiction is reality pedo brigade

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have any on there. They assumed I was an adult (I am, but they had no way of knowing that).

Even if it was the "fiction is reality" gang, what I posted wasn't sexual, and was mostly canon images. So if anybody is indulging in fantasy, it's them.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not posting your info is worse. If you don't do it and someone finds out eventually (and they always will) they'll say you were hiding your age to lure in children who assume you're the same age as them.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, FFS.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't?

Whatever happened to just not posting pedo bear bait?

That's sad. My age is publically in my sidebar on my blog and I never get flack for being a fan of younger characters.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope it stays that way.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You gotta wonder if they realize that adults make these characters.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder. Or if they realize that stories can be universally appealing across age groups based on the same factors.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
if they realize adults create them, it leads to the John Green fiasco.

Same here. It doesn't help that I'm still drawn mostly to series with characters that are younger than me. It's nice when I find something with characters my age that I want to be in the fandom for, but it just doesn't happen that often (and in my only current fandom like that, the character I relate to the most still happens to be a kid, go figure). I love movies and books with adult characters who I relate to, but none of those are really the type of thing to have a fandom.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Even when I can identify with adult characters, they're always younger than me. I'm nearly 40, and the characters I like are usually late 20s or below.

I wonder if it's because my generation is making the stories now and want to tell their stories but appeal to the ages they wish they could have heard things at.

This whole "pedo!!!!!" bullshit is getting way out of hand, seriously. I'm sorry people are being idiots about it.
There's nothing wrong with liking kid characters. And nothing wrong with identifying with them, either - often they're simpler, they have clear, strong emotional conflicts, and those can be very inspiring. It's why there's so much fiction about teenagers, I think. People change less when they're older.
Even plenty of "adult" characters, like superheroes, can be sort of juvenile, really.

Block and ignore. Some people are just not worth the time. (Or flip them off because honestly fuck them).

Relating to a character has to do less with age and more with personal experiences. Also those characters are written by adults who also base those experiences on personal experiences as well.

Yeah... relating to a character has got nothing to do with age and everything to do with personal experiences. Also sometimes you might just find a kid-character fun, it's as simple as that.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you, OP. But don't worry, you're doing nothing wrong, everyone matures at their own rate. I'm almost 30 but never had a job or a relationship, I still live with my parents and I'm very childish. I usually relate more to late teenagers and college students because my experiencies are closer to them than to people my age who usually have jobs or are married and have kids.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Block and ignore or just get hilariously trolly in response given how tumblr thinks it's inappropriate for anyone over the age of 18 to talk to minors. School? Parents? Authority figures? Nope can't talk.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Uh huh.

Selective mutism is the only answer at all.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
It sucks that you've been accused of being a pedo, OP. At least you can still enjoy anime though. I can't really enjoy it anymore just because the characters are so young. High school students saving the world is getting pretty old to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I usually can't identify with child and teen characters much anymore, but no problem if some do! The pedo thing is ridiculous. If posting non-sexual things about kids makes a person a pedophile, most parents on the internet would be pedophiles.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
So does that mean every fandom with kid characters should consist only of kids? What about, say, Stranger Things, am I allowed to like that? How about Harry Potter? People are really not thinking this shit through.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in my 30s and tumblr has given me some serious shit for loving Harry Potter without specifying that I only like the characters after the book series is over. Saying I like Harry's storyline in book five is tantamount to murder for some people.

Though it's true, I've never seen anyone on tumblr give anyone bull over liking Stranger Things. In fact, watching and loving that series is encouraged. Idgi.

Seriously. Harry Potter fans who were kids when the books were coming out are adults now. Are they supposed to just stup liking Harry Potter and flagellate themselves for having ever liked books about kids?

Pfffff, straight ignore. Lillie is my girlfriend! I loved traveling with her! I want to keep her FOREVER! But I mean: it's Pokemon. The "me" is like, 10 years old???? So who cares?! GIRLFRIENDSSSSSSSS *____*

(Anonymous) 2017-06-22 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I totally want to write some Lillie/Moon fic. When they're older, and even then nothing more than just a little crushiness and hugging.

But I guess I know where NOT to post it.
