There's nothing wrong with liking kid characters. And nothing wrong with identifying with them, either - often they're simpler, they have clear, strong emotional conflicts, and those can be very inspiring. It's why there's so much fiction about teenagers, I think. People change less when they're older.
Even plenty of "adult" characters, like superheroes, can be sort of juvenile, really.
