Honestly it felt like Rowling was trying to do the 'bickering couple' trope and didn't understand that the reason those ships can work is because both parties actually enjoy the bickering in a bantery way, whereas Ron and Hermione just came across as flat out mean and hurtful when they were doing it. There was no banter, there was no fun, they went for the throat because they wanted to hurt the other(which tbh I get the eye for an eye mentality but that's not going to work out in the long-run).
I'm not mad that they were end-game I just personally couldn't see their relationship lasting more than a few years before it imploded.
