in general the importance of characters in lots of movies etc. i especially remember pacific rim and i expected this deep characterisation of mako and in the end it was just kind of... okay? nothing to write home about imho.

... yes. I remember that people made a big thing of her and I had a friend in particular who was all excited on my behalf (because I'm Asian) because of Mako. I watched it and just shrugged. It was a fun, entertaining movie, but I don't find her a particularly revolutionary character just because she's a POC like myself.

For some reason I completely glossed over 'pacific rim' and was wondering how anyone could see deep character in mako from legend of korra.

honestly no one but Pentecost got any character in PR.

Pacific Rim is a hell of a lot of fun but it's really not as deep as the fandom liked to pretend it was. I do love Mako a lot though, her and Pentacost were the two characters I felt like had a bit more character to them.

One of my best friends is into Pacific Rim and while I love her dearly, this was NOT a deep movie. It was a great popcorn flick and has just enough vague framework for people to really riff off of when it comes to fanfiction so you can headcanon damn near anything, but... it's not a profound movie, nor was it meant to be.
