Omg, this. I hate this trope more than any other, for *any* character, because it happens so fucking often.

I read a comment somewhere that someone wants to see a horror movie where the characters make all the right and sensible choices...and still end terribly, because that's real horror.

YES! I have said that, myself. Actually, i recently watched 'Train to Busan' and it was very, very close. SMART people doing smart things in a crazy situation, and winning a lot (but losing, too).

So many 'horror' movies are just gore-porn, and so damn boring it's not even worth the time.

I discovered I really love found-footage films, and they are ALL horror, and I'm not that into horror, but what can you do? Actually found-footage films kind of make people's choices seem less dumb--there's no driving soundtrack, no stylized shots, no slo-mo etc.

I would like to like found-footage movies, but the shaky-cam effect basically makes me motion sick, so.....

But interesting observation.

One of the spookiest short films I saw as a kid was one of the Aeon Flux animated episodes. The main character is shown training in a convoluted nest of metallic bars that she moves through as quickly, efficiently, and gracefully as one could imagine. She then infiltrates an alien lair but is spotted by an alien who lowers a nest to trap her that looks and behaves exactly like the one she was training in. She immediately begins her routine, executing every move perfectly -- but the alien is simply faster.

I would applaud that!
