I think it's mostly a matter of a number of people not actually listening to the lyrics and not being all that great at understanding English in my country but there was that time when Ayo Technology was on the radio a lot and was pretty popular. And plenty people were happily singing along... until someone translated the lyrics to them. There was quite a bit of awkwardness.
