Usually what I would do is pay for it used and second hand.

E.G:

Cerebus The Aardvark
Michael Bay movies
Anything Scientology centered
Anything that is world class degenerative - ist ( please Google the heck out of this crap before making bizarre assumptions based on mere squicks and commonplace phobias )
