I really love the 1995 movie version of A Little Princess. That's an incredibly unpopular opinion around here. :( I do love the book, but I love the movie for its own reasons.

Becky was about a million times more interesting, for one. And I... actually really liked what they did with Sara's dad. I know it's not realistic, but it was emotionally satisfying, and the scene where he finds her hiding in the old man's house and he doesn't remember her... it was surprisingly raw. Sara screaming and begging him to tell them she's his daughter and he can't do it... the helplessness of that situation really stuck with me.

It had its goofiness that made me roll my eyes a couple of times, for sure (and keeping the timeline so short was sort of odd), but on the whole I adore it.

I love this version of the film, it is by far my favorite. Only off-note is the "funny" ending with the chimney sweep. Otherwise, it works for me.
