I think the baseline level of skepticism for any new Trek TV series is going to be extremely hard to start with. And then you combine that with the fact that it's departing from the traditional Trek TV format, and also experimenting with new ways of distributing TV, and you add in the bumpy path to production that it's had, and all that gets multiplied by 1000.

I'm sure some of it is racism but people were always going to be skeptical of this. I mean at the end of the day, the last season of Star Trek that's generally regarded as good came out in what, like, 1998?

When the first main trailer is a pair of natives waiting for the main ship to discover them and pick them up, you gotta be a bit skeptical. That is not a strong launch point.
