I'm feeling more hopeful on the STD now that they've announced Jonathon Frakes as director for it. They've got a man who can make sure there is some Star Trek in their spaceship show. If it still sucks even after bringing in the modern Leonard Nimoy of Trek directing then it was completely doomed out the gate.

Oh, Frakes is the director? I didn't know that. That... actually does make me somewhat more optimistic.

That's good, but "consultant" is a pretty vague role. It means the show can seek his input, but they don't have to - nor do they actually have to follow his advice.

At least it means who we can now credit if it is a success and what to blame if it isn't. If it tanks it means they didn't do enough to listen to Frakes, if it succeeds then they did. That is something to at least reassure the nervous fans.
