From the trailer, I feel like it has the potential to be decent. I really like Ryuk, but I'm unsure about L (love that the actor is sitting like L though) and Light and whatever's going on between him and that girl. No one suspects Light in the anime because he's perfect in every possible way, but this Light looks like on of those outcast kids who gets bullied a lot. I dunno, maybe they're going for the "nice kid reaches a breaking point" angle.

I saw that trailer. It was terrible. Double glaringly bad since I'm 3/4 of the way through the anime.

The nice thing about Death Note is that it's got a number of good adaptations out already. I recently rewatched the anime and was pleased to see that it's held up really well. I read the manga as well, but it's kind of a slog to get through because there's so much text for a manga and it's strangely off-putting. I much prefer the anime, though I did like two of the Japanese live action movies, but I really didn't like the drama that came out a few years ago. I don't think I even finished it. I'm curious to see if this adaptation is better or worse than the drama.

That's interesting. I didn't bother with the anime after the first couple episodes because I didn't think they did enough to adapt it from manga to show. So much of the anime seems like it might as well still be panels on a page because it was holding on single frames so much. I much prefer the manga.

I liked the live action movies too though.
