I don't really have an issue with the casting, but... it's really not that close to how Diana is pictured in comics.

Most real life adaptations vary from the comics. The key word being adaptation. Have you seen the new Aquaman? Not even close to the one I remember from the original.

I'm not even disagreeing. But you can also see what they mean, right?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm saying these days what the comicbook Diana looks like is irrelevant. Most of the theatregoing public doesn't read comicbooks

It doesn't have to be a criticism of the movie to admit that she doesn't look the part as depicted in the comics, but it is true

No actual woman looks as depicted in comics. Big boobs, tiny waists, and mile long legs are not naturally found in nature.

Well put!

+ infinity

( this is, of course, if you are rather literal minded... )

Besides, even if one could cast someone who looked like they just stepped out of the pages of a DC comic, we'd still have some people fighting tooth and nail over which artist run was preferable to the supposed current choice.

Bringing up the new Aquaman is not exactly helping your point.

The editing and the effects work do do a lot to make her look good though, and the rest of the cast do their bit in helping her through the acting. Between the two, well three if you count the soundtrack composer who did a lot to set the mood, they got her through it.

You're making the kind of sense that doesn't.

Aquaman is a blond guy in a body suit. The film Aquaman looks like an aquatic biker.

I'm looking forward to the new Aquaman, btw. But the new look was a shock at first.

Oy.

I can't even with this. Which comics?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Diana has not been drawn with the same body in comics throughout the decades. She wasn't ripped in the early comics.

Michael Rooker's Yondu looks basically nothing like comic book Yondu, and I don't remember anyone having a shitfit about that. Movies =/= Comic books.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But no one actually cares about the Guardians of the Galaxy comics. A better argument would be something like the Suicide Squad movie. Did anyone care that Will Smith played Deadshot, or Jai Courtney played Captain Boomerang, or Cara Delevingne played Enchantress? Of course not. (And I say that as someone who loves the Suicide Squad comics.)

Wonder Woman is instantly recognizable; she's been part of pop culture for 76 years now. Yondu...not so much.
