How does she not look the part? She looks exactly the part to me. Not all strong women look the same.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really have an issue with the casting, but... it's really not that close to how Diana is pictured in comics.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Most real life adaptations vary from the comics. The key word being adaptation. Have you seen the new Aquaman? Not even close to the one I remember from the original.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not even disagreeing. But you can also see what they mean, right?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And I'm saying these days what the comicbook Diana looks like is irrelevant. Most of the theatregoing public doesn't read comicbooks

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't have to be a criticism of the movie to admit that she doesn't look the part as depicted in the comics, but it is true

Bringing up the new Aquaman is not exactly helping your point.

The editing and the effects work do do a lot to make her look good though, and the rest of the cast do their bit in helping her through the acting. Between the two, well three if you count the soundtrack composer who did a lot to set the mood, they got her through it.

You're making the kind of sense that doesn't.

Aquaman is a blond guy in a body suit. The film Aquaman looks like an aquatic biker.

I'm looking forward to the new Aquaman, btw. But the new look was a shock at first.

Oy.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I can't even with this. Which comics?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Diana has not been drawn with the same body in comics throughout the decades. She wasn't ripped in the early comics.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Michael Rooker's Yondu looks basically nothing like comic book Yondu, and I don't remember anyone having a shitfit about that. Movies =/= Comic books.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
But no one actually cares about the Guardians of the Galaxy comics. A better argument would be something like the Suicide Squad movie. Did anyone care that Will Smith played Deadshot, or Jai Courtney played Captain Boomerang, or Cara Delevingne played Enchantress? Of course not. (And I say that as someone who loves the Suicide Squad comics.)

Wonder Woman is instantly recognizable; she's been part of pop culture for 76 years now. Yondu...not so much.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I... really don't see her and think "Amazon". She's pretty, but it's really glaring how different she looks from the rest of the Amazons.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe some of us don't think all Amazons need to look like they have huge muscles. She looks like she's lean muscle, which is a valid muscle build. What, do Amazons just exile all women with lean muscle?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Like, yes, I agree that lean muscle is valid, but it's weird that she's literally the only one. All the rest of the Amazons we saw were bulky. It stands out. And it's not because "lean muscle is valid", it's because pretty sells and there was no way they were going to cast a very muscular woman as Wonder Woman. That's the part that bugs me. You're talking in-world semantics, I'm talking real world.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
what a weird coincidence that the "lean muscle" build is the kind of women men want to jack off to!

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, how dare us chick who can't look like weightlifters want to see ourselves on screen as fucking valid.

Go fuck yourself and your "LEAN MUSCLE ISN'T VALID AND IS ONLY IN MOVIES AS FAP FODDER" bullshit. You're not feminist. You're an asshole with a superiority complex.

I read an article the other day, I think it was on Digital Spy, about how she had to do re-shoots when she was 5 months pregnant. They put a green panel on her costume so they could digitally edit out the baby bump, but other than that, no one made any concessions. They made her do stunts in mud and the cold that would make other actresses demand doubles. So maybe she might not look tough and athletic to some, but she is.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt
I saw that too. She also threw out her back doing stunts and such. She may not have huge biceps, but she's not a weeping flower.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
The stunt in question was moving a vase in her dressing room.

Lynda Carter wasn't build like a brick house either...

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I don't hear people bitching about Lynda Carter. Btw I loved her Wonder Woman as a kid.

^^ This.

Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman didn't have a vastly different body type from the rest of the Amazons.

Who probably weren't cast to look muscular.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, anon. I think she looks perfect. I admit I had a few doubts when she was cast, but now I think it's one of the best castings in recent superhero movie history.
