I'd say it is why the pizza place down the street has put its prices up by 10p on everything. Someone should fucking do something, guv.

10p more on each topping and delivery. It is a fucking diabolical liberty is what it is. That impacts my life far more immediately than all the other stuff talked about here, mate.

Wealth inequality.

We could start by acknowledging that automation is taking away more jobs now that the mini-tech boom can create and that a large portion of the new jobs are working on how to make their own jobs obsolete. This industrial revolution is very different to the previous ones, and we should start dealing with that. For a start there were a lot of undeveloped markets to exploit in previous automation booms to expand into, we're dealing with an almost globally mature economy now.

I agree but I think on the most fundamental level it's a political problem, and that's the issue that really has to be solved. Managing the transition of automation in and of itself isn't that hard.

The politicians won't really deal with it until it starts hitting the management sector (in the next five or so years, projected) and suddenly it is them having to go on welfare or take jobs in the fields. That is when the politicians will start realizing that -across the entire western world- that their bootstraps narrative has failed, when it hits the middle management centre-right voters. It is okay to call to whip the poors a bit harder, but the two-cars in their garage demographic? Then something will be fucking done.

To be even more specific, I believe it's a question of ideological decisions, not a question of technocratic mismanagement.

The complete disregard for the environment. I'm honestly glad I was born when I was because I doubt much longer from now will the Earth be very inhabitable. Also it's crazy to think how many of the major cities will be underwater in a couple centuries.

On the upside, we are going to lose pretty much all of Florida meaning Bugs Bunny was the greatest prophet and visionary of the 20thC. #GlassHalfFull

Yep.

Whatever we do with economics, environmental degradation is the hardest to undo.

Too many people, not enough resources to keep everyone. Comfortable long term. We need less people.

Yep.

You can't have infinite population growth in a finite environment.

I was gonna say Donald Trump, but he (and his stans) fall under this category anyway.

I'd say too much false empathy, or twisted empathy? We need more sympathy.
No Empathy - I haven't been through what you've been through and I don't care.
False Empathy - I, as a rich white male politician, share the exact same human concerns and struggles as poor working class POC! So if your health insurance doesn't cover cancer treatment, can't you just use some of the money you earn?
Twisted Empathy - I had to deal with cancer before and I did it on my own with no help, why can't you? Are you lazy or just stupid? Maybe you don't deserve to get well like I did.
False Sympathy - I have never had to struggle to pay for cancer treatment, but that sounds awful. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Now I need to go sign this legislation to triple your bill and make it harder to get some of your medications.

Sympathy - I have never had to struggle to pay for a loved one's cancer treatment myself, but fuck does that sound shitty. What can be done to help?
Empathy - I've struggled to pay for a loved one's cancer treatment before, here are some resources to help.

But like... lets get real, most of the people who have the ability to solve a problem have never dealt with the problem personally. Like 45 bragging about how he was a self-made man with only a few million in seed money from his parents.

AYRT

I like this analysis. It's quite spot on.

And good lord, agreed about rich people who've never experienced such a problem personally, yet still claiming that they "know what the poor/working class are going through". I'm working class/poor and it still boggles my mind that other people in similar financial situations brought into Trump's "I know what you guys are going through" bullshit.
