(Anonymous) 2017-07-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)It made me not-happy.
Also I found out that cover art is shocking generic right now. Where are all the great cover artists who can produce a world of wonder and adventure just through some dynamic and bright art work? The teal filter and pouty/scowly twentysomething trend that has cursed movie posters for so long has assimilated the book cover trade too.

I miss all the Michael Whelan-type covers.
A lot of my favorite authors are dead (or were already dead, heh), but a few hang on. I just got the latest in a very long C J Cherryh epic story, which is awesome. But it makes me depressed to think there will never be another Tanith Lee book, or Pratchett.....

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 01:45 am (UTC)(link)... I swear, if I see another generic romance novel type template for a book cover that has f£%k all to do with the romance section of the book store, I'm going to scream so hard, they'll hear me on the moon.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 02:31 am (UTC)(link)As a self published author, the buy a book cover websites are overwhelming and yeah, not that great, geared towards romance or twilight-esque covers and don't represent at all what I write. It is very generic.
The worst thing is I befriended a romance novelist who 'gifted' me with one of these covers and got offended when I made my own using the idea as a template to match the fact I write "Adventure" and not "romance." (Plus, scifi in a completely different CITY than on the cover she 'gave' me. Florida is NOT South Dakota.)
I mean, I don't mind a sexy guy on the cover, the protag is a sexy male werewolf. As long as it is the back of said guy, not the front. But it's an ADVENTURE novel. So, I'm sticking with my tattoo art that I can draw myself for now.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-03 02:44 am (UTC)(link)I also hear you re: book covers. It's bad in both traditional and self publishing right now. Nobody seems to want to create book covers that are small works of art in themselves. Everybody seems okay with fairly generic, unimaginative layouts and the same boring models in the same boring poses.
