It is a bit odd that in the future she has such a strong accent when everyone else basically has an American one.

Except the French, they speak Shakespearean English.

Wasn't China supposed to be badly hit during WW3 in the Trek verse, there really ought not to be many culturally Chinese people left. It is the Chinese American population, like Hoshi from Enterprise, who survived.

Hoshi is Japanese. But yeah, India and China were supposed to be particularly hard hit and Khan was partially responsible.

...kinda like having an English accent, a French name and a crew with mostly American accents?

didn't TOS have russian and scottish accents? I'd kind of like it if trek went back in that direction.

Yeah, for the comic relief characters.

Chekov and Scotty have comical aspects but they aren't "comic relief characters"

Scotty maybe, but Pavel was there to play comedy Russian in every appearance.

People from the British Isles generally get to keep their accents. Miles is obviously Irish, Bashir has an educated English accent (and one which is plausible as a slightly posher version of his dad's), Malcolm Reed in Enterprise was English.

Mind you, I loved James Doohan, but his Scottish accent was painfully bad. The one area where AOS is unquestionably better than TOS is Pegg's accent.

Malcolm's dad was a Nazi though.

Only very reluctantly, tbf.

(I wonder how many of the British viewers of Enterprise yelled "It's Leutnant Grüber and his leetle tank" at the screen at that point?)
