I have a neighbor with pretty savage PTSD after serving in the Middle East, and no matter how nicely he asks people on our street, they still set off firecrackers and bottle rockets all night. It's awful. I go over every year to help out/give distractions/etc., but he still gets really freaked out.

Your other neighbors are dicks.

I totally understand. I ask people not to do fireworks because they upset my cats, and they still do it anyway. People are horrible.

You're a good egg, anon. It's very kind of you to help your neighbor out. Shame your other neighbors are pricks

Aw, man, poor guy. It sucks that people aren't more respectful about that. Kudos to you for being a supportive, caring neighbor. Even if he still gets freaked out, I imagine/hope your visits still prove helpful to some degree for him.

That sucks so much. I live in a military town and a lot of people here served overseas in combat. Doesn't stop the idiot yahoos from shooting off shite for a damn week. I hate it.

Right, like, that's the kicker, isn't it? People are supposedly celebrating America, but refuse to respect the people who served/fought/were injured for it. I'm not the kind of person that says you automatically have to respect military just for the sake of being military, but if a veteran tells you that the sound of firecrackers can absolutely trigger flashbacks to being in combat, and you're just like HAHA TOO BAD I LIKE THE BANG BANGS USA USA, isn't that kind of completely missing the point...?

To update: he's doing okay so far. We're hanging out in his basement, which is as insulated as the house gets, playing some Mario Party, and his dog's planted right at his side. Hopefully it keeps up.

People celebrating ungrateful, disrespectful rebels against even slight authority turn out to be ungrateful, disrespectful and rebellious against even small requests. That really is America for you.

This exactly. Infuriating.

Thanks for being a good neighbor, Anon.
