Since it's come to my attention that certain communities have been purposely posting troll secrets for the lulz, I'm going to start getting harsher on what counts as a non-troll secret, especially regarding the fandom involved.

ETA2: No, this isn't only SPN fandom. This goes for everyone else, too.

What backfired? It's still going into effect, no matter how much people complain.

... though, I'm not really sure what the trolling raid was meant to accomplish.

Out of curiosity, how do you plan to enforce this? I mean, what secrets will qualify for posting under the new rules? I hope that you stop posting 'I ship it' and 'I'd hit it' secrets because most of the time those are fake and no one is really interested in those from what I can tell.

Hopefully that will help. I'm sure it's pretty difficult to distinguish real secrets from troll-y ones. And I will admit that I have posted one for the lulz.

Seriously, who hasn't? This place was pretty much made for trolls.

It's just, the SPN fandom's just been (one of) the most conspicuous with the whole trolly secret thing, and when it goes from individual trolls to a whole comm posting them and lolling over them (and encouraging it by doing so even if they're not outright saying GO DO THIS, you know), that it kinda gets to be a problem.

SPN has definitely been the most conspicuous. But I don't think there are as many SPN secrets comparatively. I mean, there are a lot of Phoenix Wright secrets.

There aren't. Which is why I sort of felt bad moving them to not secret or whatever but they just kind of -weren't- (written that way, at least) half the time. And then you actually get one that's written as a secret... and it's Horse/Jensen. Which I gave the benefit of the doubt though I probably shouldn't have.

I will try to make srs bzn secrets, however, I don't think they will be very interesting. The problem is that so much of SPN fandom is insane. If the biggest and most popular fandom pairing is an incest one, you know there are bound to be some... interesting people in it

Probably. You would have to ask the OP. Of course, I am now in the process of writing a Jensen/Horse capslock fic based on it, so I'm hardly a good judge of what is or isn't trolly.

I made the secret and I was serious. Jensen does all kinds of sexy photo shoots with horses. I asked for fic in a story finders community and got a lot hateful responses. It is sad that in a fandom that accepts characters being paired with yaks and cars, a practically canon ship like Jensen/horse is looked down upon.

All it did for me, was highlight - in big neon, blinking letters - how utterly annoying some people from that comm are.

To me, it just highlighted how silly it is to call 'trolling' on one community, then wonder why said community retaliates by trolling you.

To me, the backfiring occurred when the capslockers failed to entertain. Because really, if the trolling is just for the lulz, it should at least be lulzy.

I just have to... well, as a capslocker, disagree on the entertainment level. Just the fact that the mod felt this post was warranted was more than entertaining enough for me. But it's cool. We've got our lulz, and F!S has their rules, so it's all fine and dandy in the end. :)
