Job Thread

Anyone else looking for work? How's the search going? I hate waiting to hear back after an interview. One employer said I'd know either way by last week but nope, nothing. I hate that. If you're going to ignore me, don't promise you'll call at a certain time.

Yeah, looking for work still. Going meh. Just got to keep applying and hope for the best!

I'm on the hunt for a new job because I can't take the sheer stupidity where I work anymore. I got a lead on a dispatch job, so I'm wondering-- has anyone here done emergency dispatch? What did you like about it? What did you hate?

No, but I know a few people who do it.

What type (locality dependent, but any major metropolis is going to have Police/Medical/Firefighter separate). From what I've been told it's 95% cutting through the nonsense, and being ready for the tiny number of calls that do matter. Obviously can be very emotionally draining but you invariably get used to that/tune it out, and you need an ability to deal with people in highly stressful situations screaming at you and not giving you the information you need.

Also 30% of the time you ask someone where they are the answer is going to be some variation of "at my house".

Yep. My job is ending in just a couple of weeks, so I'm kind of scrambling. I really don't want to have a gap...I can't afford it. And yeah, I'm getting the silent treatment from one I interviewed at too. :T It would be cool if employers could just, NOT play head games?

I've been slowly giving up on getting a new/second job even with my shit hours and shit pay, because unless I can find something way way better, its probably better to just keep a consistent job rather than switching a lot... but the only thing that gets me through my days is fantasizing about having a job I actually enjoy or just quitting and being unemployed :/ My job makes me miserable but I can't get anything better. I keep sending out stuff but I can't even get an interview for another part time job. I can't get anything related to my major either. I'd like to be stable enough to freelance one day if nothing else, but that is not in the foreseeable future. I just feel hopeless.

God, if I had a dollar for every time an interviewer said, "I'll definitely let you know either way by Tuesday!" and then... *crickets* I never fucking hear from them ever again. Which is fine, but why promise something you're unable to deliver? Even a form e-mail rejection saying the position's been filled would be fine.
