[Horizon Zero Dawn]

a) she looks fit to me. And b) does she even have access to the type of food you need to bulk up?

(I went and looked at some of the Amazon extras from WW, and aside from her arms being a bit thin, I don't think she's that badly designed.)

(I'm just happy she's got a somewhat reasonable chestpiece, and not barely-contained gravity-defying mega-cleavage.)

(Anonymous) 2017-07-20 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a looooot of muscle definition for a girl, OP.

The mountain climbers (male and female) I've met tend to wiriness over bulk.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-20 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. she looks like the super fit girls I see at the gym who take this shit seriously.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-20 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I think she looks fantastic, and that most people know a lot less about how 'fit people' look than they think they do.
[witness the bullshit over 'fat' Maui, for example]

DA, +1 to this.

idk, she looks pretty fit. If anything I'd argue that she should have less muscle definition and just be a bit bigger overall...

The buzz for this almost makes me want to buy a PS. But I'll probably wait until I can budget bottom-feed both the platform and the game.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-20 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The amount of muscle definition she has in this image is enough to tell me she very clearly works out. She could be a little bit more built, sure, but I don't find it hard to believe that the girl in the image is extremely physically active.

She may not be super-buff but she's definitely got muscles going on so I couldn't say her physique bugs me.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-20 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about buff, but what is up with "realistic" video games making everyone so SHINY? Like, is she really just that oily? Her face looks made of rubber. Cutting out that shine would make her look way more real, imo.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's because she's standing in the pouring rain. The characters aren't shiny when they aren't wet.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
idk, only her face and neck are shiny, the rest isn't, which just makes it look really unnatural to me. Shininess doesn't really seem to me what one looks like standing in the rain. And I've seen this in other games, too - Dragon Age 3 comes to mind, that was the first time I really noticed it.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
IDK about Dragon Age 3 but Horizon Zero Dawn is a poor example of what you're talking about. The rain, the lighting, and her posture all add up just fine. It seems like you're seeing what you want to see instead of what's actually there.

That sure looks like a six-pack she's got there to me...

OP

You haven't seen Vanasha yet then.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly if it's a lot of parkour stuff she tends to do then her fit looks perfectly fine to me. Every athlete I know and seen that has a more jumping, running, etc. course lifestyle tends to be of the lean muscle type. Not every fit person who does a lot of shit has to be super buff. Look at swimmers, dancers, etc.

TL;DR: She looks fine for what she's supposed to. Arms might be a bit thin, but eh.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
She looks like a runner to me, Anon. Most runners I've seen IRL tend to be lean rather than bulky. She even has abs in this pic.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Her body is like many of the female parkour and sport climbing masters. Bigger muscles don't necessarily mean stronger muscles. If I remember correctly, raw strength (the highest weight you can lift with one to three reps) correlates more with muscle density, and endurance (the highest weight you can lift with 8-20 reps) correlates more with the size of the muscle. I'm not saying that size has NOTHING to do with it, but you can build a lot of strength before it shows more visibly, and diminishing returns must also be considered. Diet is another huge factor. Bodybuilders have to pay a lot of attention to what they eat and cycling their workouts to build the mass they do.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't disagree with you, but let's not pretend that they gave her the body they did because they wanted to be realistic.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
DA

...But she is realistic?

There's also nothing wrong with her being attractive. I don't hate looking at pretty art/characters in my games. That's what the designers are being paid to give us.

Except this is an optional outfit, maybe even a mod? The standard clothes are combinations of furs, armor, bones, and rope. Most of the time her body wouldn't be viewable, they didn't model her solely (or even mostly) for fan service.

And bodybuilders aren't typical athletes because their focus is only on how much they can lift rather than on what their body can do as a whole. If you look at runners, cyclists, gymnasts, ice skaters, etc., none of them are super bulky despite being capable of incredible athletic feats.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-21 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, honestly I'd rather see a range of athletic body types for both sexes. Lean, muscular male gymnast bodies, big-shouldered female swimmer bodies, stocky weight-lifter bodies etc.
