Re: Which popular scenes fall flat for you?

Han's death in The Force Awakens. Not sure why, but while I don't actively dislike it, it isn't the most tragic scene ever that so many fans make it out to be. Other deaths in Star Wars have moved me so much more. And I don't think it makes Kylo irredeemable because he killed "everyone's favorite character" and now there is no chance of redemption. Not sure if that was what they were going for or not. But it didn't have that effect on me.

I figured they were going for a basic thematic reversal of Luke sparing Vader and winning them both free from the Dark Side in the process. Kylo killing his father is him jumping at the dark side headlong for contrast. I doubt it means he's irredeemable, though. Redemption is a big theme for Star Wars, and as much as I personally dislike the kid, practically speaking he hasn't hit anywhere close to Vader levels of murder and mayhem yet.

I personally just kind of found it a bit...anticlimactic? I don't know, maybe because before I saw TFA, there were all these rumors and stuff that Han Solo was gonna die. So I kind of went in expecting it. And I guess because it wasn't all that surprising that Kylo was his son so the unmasking part of it didn't really do anything for me.

TBH, I found Chewbacca's reaction to the whole thing more moving than the scene itself.

Yeah, same. I didn't hate it, but it didn't have much of an impact on me. I guess I just assumed it would happen (didn't hear any spoilers beforehand), and dialogue isn't like the strongest point of Star Wars. Plus, while I grew up on Star Wars, Han Solo wasn't particularly dear to my heart, and at this point, I have trouble separating the actor from the character. So ehhh.

I don't think it's meant to make Kylo irredeemable because he killed "everyone's favorite character".

I think it's meant to make Kylo irredeemable because he straight up murdered his own father. Yeah, it's an extra punch for fans who hang a lot of nostalgia on Han Solo, but even if Han were replaced with Random Mechanic #7, a character murdering their own dad because he reminds them that they might actually be a human being and not an all-powerful killbot is a pretty big strike against redemption being plausible.

Han was never a favorite of mine and I knew it was coming, so I wasn't particularly impacted, either.

Still haven't watched The Force Awakens (partly because some idiot spoiled that scene for me in a gif).
