I'm just not understanding the connection. Some things do in fact happen in a vacuum. Getting a tingle in the pants from a movie scene doesn't actually have some broader societal implication unless you act on it. I mean, most reasonable people would agree that, say, playing violent video games doesn't make you responsible for some kid shooting up a school, so why does having rape fantasies make you responsible for men believing they have the right to women?

And please, I'm begging you, don't imply it's because rape is worse than death. I got enough of that from people as a rape survivor myself, which ended up doing way more damage to my psyche than the event itself. I'm not even saying that I myself have rape fantasies, but I'll defend to the death the right for women to indulge their fantasies in safe spaces.

Because it's heavily entwined in society. It's mentioned in popular media and general public sex polls. This isn't like enjoying a niche little thing like fandom where you ship two dudes together and write fanfic, this is a popular sentiment. After 50 Shades of Grey exploded, I found it alarmingly common to see dudes use this as an example that the majority of women want to be abused by some Alpha Chad with money and it's only rape if the guy doing the raping is ugly. Surely you're aware of this? Enjoy those fantasies in secret, but for god's sake, be aware that voicing "I looooove rape fantasies~" does endanger real life women and perpetuate a gross societal misconception.

Only if you can't discern fantasy from reality. Most adults can. If some people can't keep those apart then it isn't the fault of the people who can.

You can say that, but that doesn't somehow make the men who use the 50SOG phenomenon as rationale for the 'all women secretly want to get raped' mindset disappear. That doesn't make the popular notion that women prefer being with abusive rapist assholes disappear. That's the reality we live in. The guys who insist this, of which there are many, are not trolls, they are not being edgy, they honest to god believe this. Please realize your kinks do not exist in a vacuum and that women have every right to express concern and criticize those who reinforce this.

I... have a feeling you spend a lot of time seeking out revolting opinions on the internet. /r/incel and /r/redpill and what have you, though that certainly leaks out into comment sections in other places.

I want you to understand how irrational your paranoia is here. Most men do not feel this way. It's not a "popular notion", outside of niches of people that spend all their time on the internet. Please, get out into the real world more, and have real conversations with real people. Most people are shockingly normal.
