Overpopulation is a complicated issue because pretty much all post industrial societies are or are on their way to a population decrease due to lack of kids. Where as a lot of pre-industrial societies have an incredibly high fertility rate.

Where as places like Singapore are becoming more reliant on immigrants because of the lack of population growth. Japan has a major abandoned building issue because there isn't enough people in the country to live in them. Eldery care in many countries is poor because there isn't enough youth to properly take care of them.

It's very unequal.
