Man I remember d'awwwing when he tried to stand up to the Trio in the first book. To prevent them from getting Gryffindor into more trouble. That scene is, in IMO, one of the best portrayals of what being a Gryffindor meant. He so sweet and scared, but brave.

I'm happy he got more attention as the series went on.

That scene is the best.

It's why while I'm glad OP is excited and welcoming with open arms, I'm more judgmental. But then I've actually had one of my closest friends tell me that she didn't think Neville was interesting or badass until DH. Which ??? no??? Peer pressure is hard and standing up to your friends is hard, especially in a situation like Neville's where they're his friends, but they're much closer to each other than any of them are to him. And to stand up to them like that at the age of 11? Neville was always bad ass, full stop.

Preach. The signs of badassness in Neville were there from day one!

When Deathly Hallows hit bookstores there were a lot of Favorite Moment memes going around, and mine was always "at the end of the first book when Neville put Gryffindor over".

There's a reason Dumbledore (and Rowling) did it that way.

totally agreed with that. it's so much easier to go along with your peers than it is to stand up to them, I was so impressed with him

also I may be remembering wrong, but wasn't Neville the first one to get a date to the Yule Ball? I lol'd at Harry and Ron being surprised that he was braver than they were, being at that age where girls terrified them and they couldn't face their crushes, hehe.
