Am from the US, can confirm. I was actually just talking about this with someone the other day; I can't remember the last time a movie/show/game didn't hold your hand through all the major twists to make absolutely sure everyone got it-- like extensive use of rapid-cut flashbacks to all the dialogue that makes the puzzle pieces fit together, instead of just relying on you having goddamned paid attention. I understand you have to account for your lowest common denominator, but... idk, it's a little insulting to your audience, and I hate that it's where we've gone with things.

The bigger problem to me is the turn towards things that are built around intense continuities and having plots and twists and secrets

It's in everything these days and it's often dumb and I think it's popular for bad reasons (IE because it's easy for people to blog and tweet about)

Hm, I agree to a certain extent, I do think there's a pretty bad over-reliance on really sudden (but ultimately really simple) ~twists~ and heel-face/face-heel character turns for the sake of easily digestible drama. On the other hand, I think stories suffer if they're not heading somewhere at least a little unexpected, so it's sort of a fine line to walk.

But assuming that a TV show has to be a story constantly progressing towards a specific endpoint, and whose meaning and quality is determined by that ending, is itself part of the idea that I'm talking about. No one makes procedurals or episodic shows anymore.

Yeah, that irked me. No one in history has ever seriously said "We're not the good guys anymore". People generally believe that their morals and values are right, and that they more or less live up to them. Even fascists think they're doing the right thing.
