"Bland" is just a swap-word for "white" now, let's be real here.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-30 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup.

I'm white and by "bland" I don't meant "white", just boring-looking. People who are conventionally pretty, without any quirks or something to make them stand out, to me, are bland, it doesn't matter what color their skin is.

Forgive me for my skepticism. For instance, Martha was a conventionally pretty, non-quirky-looking girl, but I've never heard her described as "bland." Clara has some cute facial quirks but "bland" is lobbed at her all the time.

NAYRT but I would argue that Martha had a more distinctive character in a non-physical sense than Clara. some may disagree but that's just how i happen to feel about it. Particularly, the fact that she was a doctor, and her expertise as a doctor was emphasized from the beginning of her time on the show.

Are you the same person who thinks that fandom has an agenda of white-hatred?

(Anonymous) 2017-07-31 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Very true.

Does anyone ever call Donna Noble bland? I haven't seen it. She's white, sure, but she definitely has character and personality to spare. Ditto Amy Pond, though I don't care for her as a companion, personally.

(Anonymous) 2017-07-31 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Because Donna is "quirky" and therefore a fandom darling, whereas I've seen Amy Pond called a slut and a whore and other things and "Moffat's wish-fulfillment."

That doesn't fit into your narrative at all, though. We're not talking about fans disliking given companions. There are going to be some fans who dislike any character, including Donna. The specific assertion is that bland is a code word for white, and calling Amy Pond a slut or a whore - while very bad - is not the same as calling her bland.
