I'm white and by "bland" I don't meant "white", just boring-looking. People who are conventionally pretty, without any quirks or something to make them stand out, to me, are bland, it doesn't matter what color their skin is.

Forgive me for my skepticism. For instance, Martha was a conventionally pretty, non-quirky-looking girl, but I've never heard her described as "bland." Clara has some cute facial quirks but "bland" is lobbed at her all the time.

NAYRT but I would argue that Martha had a more distinctive character in a non-physical sense than Clara. some may disagree but that's just how i happen to feel about it. Particularly, the fact that she was a doctor, and her expertise as a doctor was emphasized from the beginning of her time on the show.
