"Respecting the setting"? This is a fantasy novel, anon. This setting has talking dragons, ships with sentient figureheads who absorb the memories of their captains after death (because they're made out of wood that used to be part of a dragon's cocoon), humans who can communicate telepathically with their animal companions, human zombies achieved via magical brainwashing, humans who grow scales and claws like dragons and also people can be brought back from the dead sometimes, with magic.

But by all means, "no homo" because a loving relationship between two men would be too crazy, amirite?
