I assume people who strongly ship something that breaks up a canon ship dislike the other character in the canon ship, unless they also ship that character with someone and write equally about it.

Heh, I can definitely see where you'd think that, yeah. I think that's a fair assumption a lot of the time. Honestly, sometimes I feel like I'm a rarity when it comes to this situation, because even when I ship one half of a canon pairing with somebody else, I still personally do tend to like the other half of the canon pairing as well (whether or not I ship them with somebody else, which is rare), and also like the canon pairing itself. The only time I ever would dislike the canon significant other is, obviously, if they were a truly horrible person who treated the character I like (or people in general, for that matter) badly.

But I also tend to be a multi-shipping sort, so maybe that explains some of that? I dunno.

Hmm, it's not a canon ship, but it does remind me I should write more about one character. I tend to leave her out because every time I include her I get comments asking when I'm going to put her in popular-fan-pairing and people dumping the acceptable fanon headcanons of uwu soft gentle mumsy goddess into the comments. And I loathe that, but I do love the character. So I probably shouldn't let the uwu uwu uwu space mommy brigade stop me from writing her.
