Using a knife and fork, especially when cutting meat.

I use them wronghanded (knife in the left, fork in the right). I'm still bad at it, but it's a lot easier than when I was trying to do it the right way. It looks a bit odd when I'm eating out, though, and I have to reverse my cutlery compared to everyone else.

I just can't get them to work right together.

Not to sound snobby but...if you hold your knife and fork with your pointer finger pointing down the utensil, like - pointing where you're going to cut, and where you're putting the fork in - it's pretty easy. Gives you lots of control and the ability to hold a steak put, if that's what you're eating, if it's a little tough or your knife is dull.

That's how i do it, and it's very easy to hold on and work the utensils in a useful way.

Yeah, that's what I do too. For me it's either a remnant of my ambidexterity or simply because I prioritized the fork and did not use the knife much as a child.

Oh god, I am awful at using a knife and fork the "proper" way. I can fake it for public, but I basically hold my knife and fork like a toddler otherwise.

I am the same way!

I would be totally awful at this, but I'm a vegetarian, so no awkward meat cutting for me! But I'm kind of along the lines of: if you're not shoveling food into your mouth like a barbarian and are generally eating neatly, what does it matter which hand holds what? I mean, spoon the soup toward you or away from you, why is it a big deal?

my dad used to yell at me for not switching the knife and fork to the opposite hands in between each bite. I think this is totally anal retentive and unneeded.

Damn, my mom used to tell me I ate like a trucker, and it's true, I basically use utensils to shovel food in my mouth, but I probably learned it from my dad, and even my mom wasn't as anal as your dad. That's nuts.
