http://dovewithscales.tumblr.com/ has mentioned having a "hoard." She or her mutuals might be amenable to talking about interior design re: treasure rooms.

Eh, she's not eating villagers or kidnapping princesses. I have no reason to care what's going on in her head.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-13 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair enough. I'm just leery of people who claim to be otherkin and then there's all the stuff about being a "Neo-Hellenic priestess of Hekate" who has been "a servant of my goddess through many lives, and in the space between lives". Wow. I know it's only interior decor advice you're talking about, but...

Just looked at the "hoard" tag. What pictures there are are haphazard piles of stuff that doesn't look aesthetically pleasing or like "interior" design at all, rather, it looks like someone dumped all their shit on a table. Also like messy hoarder pictures.

You mean this?

Yeah. It looks like a nice enough collection, but there's no particular aesthetic and I have no idea why this person should be consulted about designing a treasure room. Like... what about that pile of rocks says, "This person clearly knows a lot about design"?

Are you on the wrong thread? IDEK

I'd probably be more worried about how much dusting would be involved - but otherwise? That does look pretty great!

Yeah that's the first thing I think about when I see pictures like this - nice in theory, and in that universe, it wouldn't be a problem because magic, but ... all the dirt.

Well in the book, Howl doesn't have a hoard or whatever like that, but the interior of the Moving Castle is a gigantic mess. Especially the bathroom. He won't let Sophie in his own room for a lot of the book (there is a bit of a reason). First thing Sophie does when she's allowed to stay is cleans everything and complains about how Howl and Michael are such slobs. And Calicifer is very put out that she uses him to heat water for cleaning. Oh I love that book, and what I would give for an accurate adaptation of it.

A truly excellent goal.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-13 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably not at all what you want but the only thing I can think of is a very realistic wallpaper? And then hanging up lots of different things on the walls to create depth or something. I hope you figure something out!

(Anonymous) 2017-08-13 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
When you can magically dust off that pile, you're all set and it won't look like a hoarder's nest. Until then, please don't. You'll get pests.

You can try for a modern harem style and choose things that are large and easy to wash, but still make a "treasure cave" like impression. Think easy-wash copies of oriental rugs- and middle-age tapestries, magic chandeliers made of pretty boxes and colored led-strips, low tables and glittering cushions, cabinets and chests in dark wood or paint with lots of small drawers (try your local antiques market), big, easy maintenance plants (go for the really tough ones that thrive without much sunlight and can stand out a dry period, like Monstera or Zamioculcas. Then add some pretty brass ornaments: figurines, lamps, candlesticks and the likes (keep it fire safe!) and you should be all set. Oh, wait: you need some exotic music too, something smooth and warm. I'm sure you can think of something. :)

SA Here's some illustrations that show what I'm thinking of. If you use vibrant colors, but don't clutter too much you can get the cave without the added "trash hippie":

That's actually nice looking, especially the first one. Not like that "let's ask the dragonkin about treasure room design" weirdness, lol!

Make sure you dust regularly?
