OK, seriously, track down the novelizations. You get the old stories without the production issues.

Terrance Dicks's prose adaptations were how I got into Doctor Who as a child, and honestly, much of the actual TV show was a disappointment.

Novels really are a better form for science fiction. TV is a good form for doing a crap job of it and playing it off as 'camp.'

Some of them are available as radio plays* - and of course there's the Big Finish plays, some of which are absolutely brilliant.

* Of course, in some cases, the soundtrack's all that's left!
