I value my independence and personal freedom. Other people see a loving relationship of give and take as a beautiful thing. I view it as a prison. I refuse to ask anyone for permission unless they're my mother, and her only because she's old and worries and I value her peace of mind. No one else will have that kind of emotional power over me. Ever.
