Do you think that water didn't exist in the Old West?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Communities and towns were often built around water sources. I'm not saying people bathed everyday, but they did bathe. There were bath houses and generally some sort of pitcher and bowl in their bedrooms. I'm guessing that most didn't have sex everyday either, so that probably worked out. And in post-apocalyptic settings, well, it's not like people don't know about how cleanliness relates to keeping infection down, so I'd think they'd probably wash before sex.

I don't think it would be incorrect to say that people in the Old West were less clean than they are today.

Naryt - It isn't, you're correct. Ayrt is either kind of of dense or is being willfully obtuse and argumentative for shits and giggles.

But less clean doesn't automatically mean dirty or that somehow nobody knows how to get their genitals clean. The secret poster says that genitals in those situations will smell and taste awful, as if nobody ever cleans there. But they had both soap and water. Even water and scrubbing goes a long way. Sure, there are sometimes when somebody isn't going to be very clean, but acting like no one would ever clean themselves before sex seems disingenuous.

Well, no. The secret mentions that their genitals must smell and taste awful, but the "as if nobody ever cleans" part is your own addition that nobody in this thread has seriously argued. And while this part should be obvious - it only takes a day of moderate physical activity to work up a good sweat, and that condition is easily met by all the scenarios OP mentions in the secret. Not everyone loves the smell/taste of ball sweat. The scenarios mentioned in the secret are also not very conducive to regular washing or clothing changes, even if people might ordinarily choose to do so under better circumstances... say, a NON post-apocalyptic setting.

I'm sorry that's the implication that I get from the secret, that somehow no one is ever clean when they have sex. Either that or they always smell and taste awful, no matter when they've cleaned. Because the implication is always, every time, that the secret poster can't imagine that they could possibly not smell or taste awful. I don't understand why it would be unusual for someone to bathe after their day and before sex or even take some water and a cloth and wash up before sex. I'm not saying everyone would always smell and taste good, but I am saying that they wouldn't always smell and taste awful. The secret poster wrote must, that's what I was commenting on.

Genitals don't exactly taste like fresh apple pie today, so it's hardly a stretch to imagine they'd be pretty gnarly in settings where fewer average baths were taken. This is not a hard concept.
