Your ancestors could deal with it, why not you?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My ancestors also used leeches to treat everything wrong with them.

My ancestors farmed mud, which they dealt with by drinking a hell of a lot. I'm pretty sure they dealt with their mud-caked genitals the same way.

I don't want to drink away mud-caked genitals.

Some people are into that, aren't they?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You know bathing and junk washing aren't exclusively modern phenomena, right?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Generally people take way fewer baths though. Hell, even in modern time when camping/hiking you will take a lot less baths (or just take a "bath" with a wet rag).

To be fair, OP also said post-apocalypse and I have seen a lot of stories related to that where people aren't bathing.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You know that even though people bathed and washed their junk in the old days, it wasn't necessarily up to modern standards of hygiene, right?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
When I read stuff like this I just think, do people think bathing is purely a 20th century invention?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Chances are, people in the eras/settings OP is talking about weren't washing every 1 - 2 days on the regular, though.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
People bathed, but usually not daily.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right, it wasn't. And you what, though? People still stank a lot more than what we're used to now, not just because they didn't bathe as thoroughly every day, but also because their clothes were a lot dirtier as well.

To be honest if everyone is that way, it's probably "normal". And oral was sort of taboo in a lot of time periods anyway.

Yes. I have a suspicion that it's not *just* the increasing liberalism of society that's made oral more normal (though it's probably the biggest factor). The opportunity to wash more frequently probably helped, too...

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No need for this to be a secret, it's a meme opinion.

I feel this way about dwarves and men. But elves, I think, would have bathed quite frequently. While on journey's, no, but the stuff I tend to read is in situations where baths would be natural.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-23 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure elves just smell better and better the more sweaty and unwashed they get.

Gross fic

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
I once read a fanfic that described a forced blowjob on a dirty dick in a medieval setting. Complete with things like "taste of old pee." Thanks but no thanks for reminding me of that horror.

Do you think that water didn't exist in the Old West?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Communities and towns were often built around water sources. I'm not saying people bathed everyday, but they did bathe. There were bath houses and generally some sort of pitcher and bowl in their bedrooms. I'm guessing that most didn't have sex everyday either, so that probably worked out. And in post-apocalyptic settings, well, it's not like people don't know about how cleanliness relates to keeping infection down, so I'd think they'd probably wash before sex.

Re: Do you think that water didn't exist in the Old West?

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it would be incorrect to say that people in the Old West were less clean than they are today.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Might I recommend willing suspension of disbelief?

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks about this. I'm writing a fic in which one of the characters stipulate that she will not fornicate with character H unless they have both bathed first (once a day is enough), as tbey are constantly out in the woods/ on the run/ H just looks dirty.

Saaame. And the horrendous teeth and breath.

(Anonymous) 2017-08-24 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
People constantly seem to think that humans are way grosser than we are. I never tell people that I haven't shampooed my hair in years because whenever the conversation swings towards bathing less than every other day, they get grossed out. But after my hair got used to it, it acts the same as anyone else's.
