Nobody said it was. I said "their clothes were a lot dirtier", which is true. Modern technology and detergents allow us to get our clothes a LOT cleaner than people in historical times, and we tend to wash our clothes far more frequently. The average person also has a much larger wardrobe and isn't necessarily forced to wear the same shirt or gown over and over between washings. Modern people also tend to live less active lifestyles, so our clothes don't get as dirty or sweaty throughout the day, either.
